Many small businesses are using Social Media to act as their website. While this may be an easy thing to setup, it’s not the best way to communicate with new consumers.

The problem with this approach is that social media is too spontaneous and random. When you post information about your business, odds are that people following your page will see it only once before it disappears never to be seen again by the same person.

We’re not saying that you shouldn’t have a social media page, as a matter of fact you should have as many social media sites that you can keep relevant and interesting. The most important thing is to have a website that all of your social media pages direct traffic to.

Things like daily food specials, coupons or promotions should be listed on your website where consumers can bookmark for future use. You would then use social media to advertise and drive traffic to your website.

eCommerce doesn’t always have to mean an online store of physical products, it can also mean simply promoting specials or events.
